The SPM English essay writing guidelines continue with the CEFR-aligned format that has been used in previous years. Candidates will have 90 minutes to complete the paper, which is worth 60 marks. This paper contributes 25% toward the overall English grade. The first part of the paper requires candidates to respond to a short text (for example: an email or a message) and will include a guide of 80 words or less. The second part of the paper requires candidates to write an essay based upon the stimulus that has been set, and will have a guide of 125-150 words or less. The third part of the paper is a report, article, review or story written by the candidate within a guide of 200-250 words or less.
