How to Install, Uninstall ConfigServer Security and Firewall CSF on Virtual machine?

ConfigServe Security and Firewall are also called as CSF. It is a firewall script which is designed to offer better security for the servers. And CSF is easy to use and it is the advanced interface for managing the firewall settings. CSF configures the server’s firewall to lock down the public access to the services and will permit only a few connections, like logging into FTP, loading the websites, checking the email and much more. CSF also permits you to manually whitelist or blacklist IPs in the firewall, and also the real-time monitoring for the automatic IP blocks in LFD (Login Failure Daemon). And it is being covered by managing the CSF Firewall.

Steps to Install the CSF:

For installing the CSF you must log in to the server through SSH root Access and run the below command:

#  cd /usr/src

#  rm -fv csf.tgz

#  wget

#  tar -xzf csf.tgz

#  cd csf

#  sh

And then you need to test whether you have the required iptables modules:

#  perl /usr/local/csf/bin/

Note: You do not need to bother if you are not able to run all the features, as long as the script does not.

You must not run any other iptables firewall configuration script. Like, if you have already used APF+BFD you will be able to eliminate the combination that you will need to do if you have them installed or else they will conflict.

#  sh /usr/local/csf/bin/

After installing the CSF successfully you have to disable the TESTING mode to make the CSF work properly on the server.

You can alter it from the configuration file also.

#  vi /etc/csf/csf.conf

And then change the value of ‘TESTING’ from 1 to 0

Steps to Uninstall the CSF:

To Uninstall the CSF you need to login to the server through SSH root Access and run the below command:

Removing the csf and lfd:

#  cd /etc/csf
