How to solve ERROR: Connection dropped by imap server Query: SELECT "INBOX" in Webmail(cpanel)

ERROR is as shown below :

Connection dropped by IMAP server Query: SELECT "INBOX"

 

You get this above error gets when the dovecot indexes are corrupted. To fix this simply purge the indexes

 

The exact error message could be obtained by using below command -

 

tail - f /var/log/maillog

 

"Error: broken sync positions in index file /home/user/mail/domainname.com/user/dovecot.index" and "Warning:fscking index file /home/user/mail/domainname.com/user/dovecot.index"

 

Here is the Solution

 

Solution 1:  Delete all files named "dovecot" in the path "/home/cpanel_username/mail/domainname.com/user/maildir" using :

 

                   rm -f dovecot*

 

OR

Solution 2:  You can simply rename the dovecot.index page as:

 

                       mv dovecot.index dovecot.index_bk

 

Solution 3: At times you might face this error if when the user exceeds the Quota so you try solving this error by increasing the email quota.

Step 2: Enter your username and password and then click ok. Enter your full email address all in lowercase.
